About HFFBCF

Our Services

Camp Janus

The Fund, in cooperation with the Houston Fire Department and Camp Janus, sponsor a summer camp for burned children. Camp Janus provides a chance for children to interact with other children who have also been victims of fire. Our firefighters also volunteer their time at Camp Janus to interact with these wonderful kids.

Medical Equipment

The Fund assists with purchases of pressure-gradient burn garments, used to help control hypertrophic scarring and shorten rehabilitation time. The Fund also helps provide wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, and other items used to help children heal. Parents and legal guardians of pediatric patients are welcome to apply for assistance.

Boots for Brighter Days

This is our newest program. This activity takes recovering children at the Shriner's burn unit to outings with our firefighter volunteers. Trips so far have included visits of the Houston Zoo and Galveston's Moody Gardens.  Our kids and their families enjoy these events outside the hospital environment -- and look forward to just being kids.

Christmas Gifts

One of our treasured annual traditions is visiting injured children who must spend their holidays recovering in the hospital. Our firefighters visit with the children and distribute Christmas gifts purchased by the Fund.

Education

Aside from being the primary revenue producer for the Fund, the Houston Fire Fighters Calendar also provides fire safety guidance and tips.  For example, reminders to change smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. We also are working to establish a fire safety training course for school-age children.
